Former acting chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Khaidem Mani on Monday wrote a letter to DGP, Manipur, seeking appropriate legal action on suo-moto against the 10 MLAs, including two cabinet ministers of the BJP-led government, stating that they have committed illegal and communal activities while being part and parcel of the existing government of Manipur.
The letter stated that during the course of illegal demand and commission of illegal acts, they have not so far tendered any resignation from the cabinet ministership and membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The 10 MLAs of Manipur Legislative Assembly belonging to the Chin-Kuki-Hmar community have to take legal action against them for their illegal acts, thereby spearheading the unrest by inciting and promoting enmity between the Kukis and Meiteis community, it stated.
“10 MLAs belonging to Kuki-Zomi Hmar Community of the Manipur Legislative Assembly including the two Cabinet Ministers of N Biren Singh-led government of Manipur openly demanded a separate administration from the existing state of Manipur, thereby promoting enmity between the Kukis and Meetei communities and letting them kill each other, creating feeling of enmity, hatred or ill-will between the said two communities for the last more than six months. They are the architects of the present conflicts between the Kukis and the Meetei communities, ” the letter alleged.
The 10 MLAS belonging to the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Community are the members of the ruling dispensation. Of the said 10 MLAS, seven belong to BJP, two are members of KPA, and one is Independent, who support the ruling dispensation, it mentioned.
Mentioning the press statements and memorandums submitted by 10 MLAs, Khaidem Mani in his letter stated that the intention of 10 MLAs in the ongoing conflict is an open truth of committing heinous crime against the people of Manipur, thereby promoting enmity between different groups of people amongst Kukis and Meitei communities on grounds, whatever, disharmony or feeling of enmity, hatred or ill-will between the Meiteis and Kukis communities.
