The Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) on Wednesday announced a statewide curfew on September 8-9, while also resolving to launch a non-cooperation movement against the central and state government from September 10.

The same was announced during the one-day public convention organised by TAKDAL at Sapam in Thoubal district.

The decision to impose the curfew came following the Prime Minister’s failure to visit Manipur even though the prevailing conflict has crossed four months, the Union home minister’s divide and rule game by ruling out separate administration in the state and failure of the state government to hold a complete state legislative assembly to chalk out necessary measures.

Three other resolutions were also unanimously taken during the meeting including a demand to the central and state governments to take immediate action to end the ongoing violence and to ensure the displaced civilians return back to their rightful homes by providing them full security and protection.

The 3rd resolution demanded to curb poppy plantation which is a threat to the environment and ecosystem and to evict illegal immigrants encroaching on reserved and protected forest areas. While the 4th resolution stated that TAKDAL will extend all-out support and solidarity to the initiatives jointly taken by the civil society organisations in the interest of the people.

TAKDAL chairman Y Bhagyachnadra presided over the public convention held on the theme ‘No more politics and No More Violence against innocent life’. Retired IAS RK Nimai and head of Manipur University Law Department, Yumnam Premananda were the resource persons at the event.

Many CSOs of Kakching and Thoubal districts, Meira Paibis, intellectuals, individuals from the Meitei-Pangal community and other communities from the two districts took part in the convention, where they put forward various suggestions and ideas.
