A team of special commando unit, Manipur police led by Subedar L. Bebekananda Singh, OC-SPL/CDO Unit and assisted by SI Kayekumar Singh under the supervision of Th. Krishnatombi Singh, SP/Railway & In-Charge, Special CDO Unit, Manipur police seized 160 grams of suspected contraband heroin powder on Friday.
The drugs were seized from 37-year-old Md Ziaul Haque, S/o (L) Md. Kiyamuddin from Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, while conducting normal frisking and checking of vehicles at Wahengbam Leikai Bazar under law-and-order duty at around 6 pm.
According to the police, four soap cases containing suspected contraband heroin drugs were seized from one Maruti car (Astar) without a registration number which Md. Ziaul Haque was driving.
Md Ziaul Haque was arrested on the spot by preparing a seizure memo in presence of two police personnel from the team at around 6.35 pm, said the police.
On preliminary questioning, Md Ziaul Haque said that the soap cases were purchased from one 34-year-old Mirza Khan, son Md Shahidur Khan from Lilong Konjin Leikai Thoubal District.
The accused person has been handed over to the Officer-in-Charge, Special CDO Unit, Manipur Police.
The arrested person along with the seized articles was also handed over to the city police station for further necessary legal action.
