Sunbird Trust, a Civil Society Organisation working with the motto of Peace through Education across Manipur state, has reached out to displaced persons in camps in Bishnupur and Imphal Districts with critically required relief materials.
A release by Longjam Lupeshor Singh, General Manager- Projects & Admin-NE for Sunbird Trust stated that the camps covered include Khoyol Keithel, Santhong Khaand Sanghong Awang relief camps in Moirang, ARICA and Laisoi relief camps in Thanga and Ideal Girl’ College at Akampat in Imphal.
The materials were decided after survey of the relief camps and close consultation with the displaced persons and relief committees, the release said, adding that the items included blankets, warm shawls, bedsheets, bathing towels, mattresses, khudei, plastic mats, undergarments, tea leaves, milk powder, dal, ngari (dry fermented fish), condiments, baby diapers, toiletries, hardy vegetables, rice and cooking oil.
The distribution on September 1, 2023 at Ideal Girl’ College at Akampat in Imphal was carried out in the presence of MLA Thongam Biswajit Singh of Thongju constituency.
Col Christopher Rego (Retd.) the founder and CEO of Sunbird Trust mentioned that Manipur was the second home of the entire Sunbird Trust team. At this time of deep crisis and need, it was incumbent that the organization was available to serve the neediest in the state, the release said.
Sunbird Team members Longjam Lupeshor, Khuraijam Banty Singh and Khangembam Malemthaba along with Sunbird Trust alumni helped coordinate the relief supplies, the release said.
