‘Sugnu gi Amamba Numit’ observed

The first ‘Sugnu gi Amamba Numit’ was observed commemorating the harrowing day on May 28, 2023 when Sugnu was attacked by armed kuki militants following the violence that ravaged the state.

Phambei Sugnu observed the first ‘Sugnu gi Amamba Numit’ at Sugnu Ema Market in Kakching district, Manipur on Tuesday, commemorating the harrowing day on May 28, 2023 when Sugnu was attacked by armed kuki militants following the violence that ravaged the state.

Seven civilians of Sugnu were killed during the unprecedented and unprovoked attacks by the militants. Attendees at the event also paid floral tributes to all those who were killed during the violence and also observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls. Many also recounted horrific incidents triggered by the conflict.  

Speaking at the event, Phambei Sugnu Ningol Lakpi, Aheibam Chanthoisana stressed the need for the Meeteis to reaffirm their unity in resisting the threats and attacks to the state’s territorial integrity, lives and properties of the people.

She also called upon all to extend their solidarity and assistance in resolving the prevailing crisis in Manipur and restoring peace and harmony in the State. She further sought public support in ensuring that normal life is restored in Sugnu.

Sugnu Hidang, Kh Biramani, ex Pradhan of Hiyanglam Gram panchayat, E Rajen, Sugnu Municipal Council Caretaker Chairperson, M Sharat, WMC Manipur Unit President, U Kunjo, TAKDAL President, Y Bheigyachandra and many eminent persons took part in the event.
