Students of Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School on Thursday had imposed indefinite shutdown of the school in protest against the transfer of the school principal and appointment of a new principal who is only three months left from retirement.
As per an order issued by the Education (s) on October 31, the principal K Tiken was transferred as the OSD of Education (s) while a teacher from Vungzagen Higher Secondary School L Phulchand who is only three months left for retirement was posted as the new principal.
The new principal was reportedly denied entry to the school by the agitating students while he came to assume the principal office.
Speaking to the media, a student protester L Roji expressed that under the supervision of principal Tiken, the school had witnessed a tremendous growth by even utilising his private funds.
So, the transfer of such an ideal principal and appointing a new principal who is waiting for his retirement by the Education department is an act of tarnishing the career of the students, she said.
Condemning the Education department for the transfer, she demanded revocation of the transfer order.
The government remaining as silent spectator will only intensify the agitation, the student cautioned.
