Students rally demanding ST status

Students of Grace Reach Academy, Hiyanglam Laiphangalba and Bal Vidya Bhawan, Wabagai carried out a protest rally on Tuesday demanding to send the two needed reports for inclusion of Meetei in the ST list to the Centre.

Students of Grace Reach Academy, Hiyanglam Laiphangalba and Bal Vidya Bhawan, Wabagai carried out a protest rally on Tuesday demanding to send the two needed reports for inclusion of Meetei in the ST list to the Centre.

The rally was carried out under the banner of World Meetei Council (WMC), stated a release. Protestors lamented over the alleged failure of the state government in paying heed to the public demands despite repeated pleas, it stated.

They expressed concern over the increasing influx of illegal immigrants in the state and asserted that the indigenous people of the state will be forced to stay as refugees in their own land if the same were to continue, it stated.

It urged the chief minister to do the needful before the implementation of 2026 Delimitation in India. Protesting students also chanted various slogans during the rally, it mentioned.
