Ima Panthoibi Street Vendors Union on Tuesday called off the blockade along the Imphal-Ukhrul Road following authorities’ assurance to survey land for construction of street vendors’ market shed at Apex godown, Dingku Road, Imphal.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club, president of the union, Y Indrani Devi, expressed gratitude to MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand and officials for finally addressing the plight of the vendors in the Assembly.
Indrani highlighted that the union had been demanding for construction of the market shed since long back and stated that the previous government had failed to materialise the construction even though NEC sanctioned funds for the construction.
As such, she pointed out that the union will withdraw their agitations and urged authorities concerned to swiftly commence the survey and start construction works.
