Apprising all the government school teachers from using political power to defy their transfer and posting orders at off-grid areas, Education (S) director L Nandakumar on Saturday informed that the department has all the data of the teachers who use such political powers.

"Don't take it as a surprise if the department had initiated sudden action against those teachers," he cautioned.

The director was speaking during an award ceremony of "Incentive to Government School Students Who Excel in High School Leaving Certificate Examination and Higher Secondary Examination" for the year 2022-23 held at MSFDS in Imphal East.

In the last 10 years, the pass percentage of government school students is gradually increasing, he said, informing that it was the highest in the year 2022.

He also informed that the performance of the students of the state are above the national average performance during a random NAS Examination conducted for all India recently.

Pointing out that there are as many as 4,670 schools across the state and the number of students is 6,31,471 which is nearly 25 per cent of the state population, he stressed the need of giving quality and proper education to these students as they are the future of Manipur.

Commissioner of Education (S) H Gyanprakash alleged that the status of government schools in the state is falling due to negligence by many of the government teachers, though none of them are less than any private teachers in terms of qualifications.

Decades back, the government schools were able to give a tough competition to the private schools. Now securing among the top 25 positions by government school students is very rare, he added.

It is worth mentioning that only one government school student was able to secure position (4th) in the HSC Examination 2022 while none entered in the position list of HSLC Examination 2022.

He said, while the government school teachers are neglecting their duties and started using substitutes, many of the excellent students choose private schools over government schools in search of schools which conduct good and regular classes.

For those excellent students, infrastructure is secondary, they search for schools having ideal teachers, he maintained.

In order to streamline all this loophole which withheld the government schools from raising up, he apprised all the government teachers to adopt the quality of real teachers and start working sincerely with dedication.

As many as 63 meritorious students of government schools in the 10th and 12th standards of 2022 undertaken by BOSEM and COHSEM respectively were felicitated during the Saturday's award function organised by the Education (S) Department.
