The All Manipur Hill and Plain Contractors’ Association on Monday urged the government of Manipur not to award Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) works below scheduled rate.
The association also urged to stop awarding works to firms or companies from outside the state.
Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club, the association’s vice president N Kumar Meitei said that when the association checked complaints of quality and contractors leaving works without completion, they found that works were awarded to sub-contractors with below 30 to 35 per cent of the scheduled rate of the work tender. Hence, the quality of the works could not be maintained and complaints were raised against the contractors, he said.
Under PMGSY, works were awarded under scheduled rate and almost all those sub-contractors had withdrawn the bill without completing the work awarded to them, he said.
Kumar further said that contractors of the state have been deprived by the state government by inviting companies or firms from outside the state. He said that in reality those companies from outside the state which were/are awarded work orders should actually be registered in the state, he said.
"As almost all works have been given to companies from outside the state and contractors of the state have been left without works," Kumar said.
It does not mean that all works can be implemented by the contractors of the state but the state government can arrange by distributing the works among the contractors of the state, he added.
