The Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) on Thursday called upon both the Manipur and Central government to stop the attempts of vested Kuki militants and individuals to merge certain section of Manipur's landscape into Mizoram and create "Greater Mizoram".

Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club on Thursday, UFO secretary general Y Meiraba Angom maintained that allowing armed militants into civilian space during the peace rally was a violation of international human rights.

He stated that those armed militants instigated the violence against Meiteis in Churachandpur. It lit a chain of events which resulted in casualties on both sides.

"The current situation is not a momentary incident but a well-planned-out situation," he said.

As such he urged the people not to fall for hate propaganda spewed by people with vested interest to create ethnic rift. The people should be conscious and stop any attempts to create such, he added.

He also condemned the vandalism of religious places and stated that such were not justifiable and permissible.

He highlighted that few Kuki individuals destroyed and ransacked three UFO branches were destroyed in the clash.

Questioning why such despicable actions were committed, Meiraba stated that UFO is an organisation which follows the principle of respecting all living creatures on the planet.

Vandalism against such an organisation was uncalled for, he added.

He further highlighted that all communities in Manipur had been peacefully co-existing since time immemorial.

"But targeting civilians of a particular community for political and social grievances against the government is unjustified," he said.

As such, he called upon people of all community to collectively strive in restoring peace, harmony and tranquillity in Manipur.
