State road safety meeting held

During the State Level Road Safety Council (SLRSC) meeting the council discussed the details of the road safety measures and action plan to be executed to reduce accidents and fatalities in the state, a release stated.

The State Level Road Safety Council (SLRSC) meeting to discuss the details of road safety measures in the state was held under the chairmanship of Transport Minister Khashim Vashum at the Old Secretariat in Imphal on Thursday.

A release stated that during the State Level Road Safety Council (SLRSC) meeting the council discussed the details of the road safety measures and action plan to be executed to reduce accidents and fatalities in the state.

It informed that the council resolved to hold its meeting twice every year in January and July, adding that the council decided to make the lead agency office functional with the nomination of staff and officers from line departments like police, health, PWD, education etc.

Future plans for the next three years for the reduction of road accidents and resulting fatalities, implementation of revised rules and regulations of the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019 and road safety awareness programme were also discussed, it mentioned.

“The council also advised the transport director to conduct the Road Safety Week 2023 from January 11 to 17 in the state by organising various awareness programmes for the drivers including free medical health check-ups of drivers along with special drives on roads to stop defaulters, to stop overloading and to conduct checking of reflective tapes on heavy-duty vehicles,” it added.
