Manipur Youth Affairs Minister Govindas Konthoujam on Thursday announced that the state government had apprised the central authorities to revoke the SoO with Kuki militants as they had flagrantly violated SoO ground rules.

“We will know the results by the end of February. The state government is hopeful that the Centre would make the right decision to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur,” he said.

He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the closing of 1st UNACCO Trophy, a state level 9 A-side Men’s Open Football Tournament at Chanung, Imphal East.

The minister alleged the Central forces of implementing biased security measures and maintained that works to deploy state forces in isolated sensitive areas were in progress.

He highlighted that forensics teams had been sent in to investigate the suspected use of war-like weaponry at Sugnu by Kuki militants.

“We suspect they are using sophisticated weaponry used in war-like situations at Sugnu. The forensic will investigate the matter under strict security measures,” he said.

He further expressed gratitude to all the village volunteers for their valiant effort in guarding the fringes and exhorted all to strive collectively towards peace and normalcy.

Meanwhile, UNACCO school chairman N Irabanta stated that Manipur had high human resources but extremely poor access to modern facilities.

He exhorted all to extend their support in restoring peace in Manipur and put the state back on track towards development and prosperity.

The tournament had been organised by UNACCO School under the aegis of All Manipur Football Association (AMFA). The tourney kicked off from 29 January at Chanung, Imphal East.

Altogether, 32 teams took part in the tournament. In the final match for the trophy, ID Academy Kha Sanjenbam beat KHYSA Kairang 7-3 after a riveting final round.
