St Joseph College, Ukhrul on Monday flagged off its Annual College Week. The College Week, the yearly mega festival of the institute which will be celebrated from October 9-14, had its inauguration programme with KH Sille Anthony, Former Joint Registrar, JNU, Delhi and Former Director HRD, NEC Shillong as the chief guest.
Among the special guests include Fr John Besii, Principal, Savio High School Ukhrul; Fr Yesudas, Parish Priest of St Joseph Parish Choithar; and Fr Albert Rakesh, VP of Sacred Heart Hr Sec School, Hungpung graced the occasion. Dr Fr Parvis John, the Principal welcomed everyone and honoured the chief guest and the dignitaries, faculty members and the students.
The students executed a vibrant performance called “Embracing Diversity” displaying costumes, songs, and dances from 13 distinct communities of India that are part of the community in St. Joseph College.
The chief guest passionately spoke on “Education, Employability, Entrepreneurship,” and in his speech he encouraged the students to “pursue dreams aggressively” emphasising the importance of acquiring new skills, besides a college degree, to live in this competitive world.
After the inaugural program, the College Week competitions started with solo, duet, choir, choreography and other competitions. Fr Joseph Thohrii, Vice Principal proposed the Vote of Thanks and acknowledged the contribution of everyone to make this day possible and making a memorable one.
An enthusiastic crowd of students who were divided into four groups: Stanford, Oxford, Harvard, and Cambridge, named after the most prestigious universities in the world, cheered and encouraged their respective participants as the competitions continued throughout the day.
It may be mentioned that the theme of the college week 2023 is “Inspire a Generation”.
