The Communist Party of India Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) on Wednesday denied Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion that the prevailing communal riot in the state is a result of the Meitei community’s demand for inclusion of Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe list.
The movement is a long-planned agenda by the Kukis for years and the Union home minister’s repeated claim is an attempt to escalate further violence, the party alleged in a release.
The party alleged that the attack on the Meiteis and their properties was planned even before the conflict broke out. It expressed discontentment that the central and state government allegedly failed to take timely appropriate measures.
It also noted the Home Minister’s invitation to the opposition parties for discussing the conflict and asserted that the issue cannot be discussed within a short duration and demanded to instead discuss the adjournment motion moved by the opposition parties.
It further lamented over the contradiction in the agendas among the civil society organisations pertaining to the issue. It urged all to work in unison to save the state’s integrity and also assured that the party will extend all out efforts in the same.
