The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) will conduct its annual meeting on April 24 at THAU ground in connection with their further course of movement against enlisting Meitei or Meetei in the Schedule Tribe list.
In a release issued by STDCM on Tuesday, the committee stated that they have been demanding to include Meitei or Meetei in the Schedule Tribe list since 2012. Various movements had been launched and the campaign was carried out in various parts of the state, spreading awareness about the need of Meitei or Meetei getting Schedule Tribe status. But due to COVID-19 pandemic, the movement was on halt for some months and it resumed later, the committee stated.
The release further said it has been almost 10 years since they had made the demand. However, the authorities concerned failed to translate it into action till date. Yet, the momentum of their agitation is still rising as more people have started realising the significance of their demand as an outcome of their movement, the STDCM said.
The committee appeals to all the stakeholders and members of the committee to attend the meeting on time which is going to begin from 11 am, April 24.
