'Spread awareness, stop stigmatisation of illicit drug users in Manipur'

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2023 observed amid unrest in Imphal.

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2023 was observed at different places in Imphal on Monday despite the prevailng unrest and high tension. 

The Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at NAB campus in Imphal.

During the programme, senior SP NAB, K Meghachandra Singh, NAB OC, officers and personnel of NAB took pledge to cooperate in stopping drug abuse, not to consume any illegal drugs and create awareness about the ill effects of drugs.

The day was also observed at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat by the Indian Psychiatric Society and the Indian Medical Association of Manipur State Branch under the theme ‘People First: Stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention’.

Speaking to the media, Dr Nelson Loitongbam, secretary of the Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch said that stigmatisation of illicit drug users in society is high in the state. To stop stigmatisation, it is necessary to give awareness to all people, he said.
