A patrolling unit of Churachandpur police on Monday found six heavy duty trucks loaded with 2246 PDS (Public Distribution System) rice bags and registered a GD (General Diary) entry as the items were reportedly taken from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown at Tualnuam, Churachandpur, Manipur.
Police said the rice bags were meant for public distribution in Churachandpur, Saikot, Singngat and Henglep assembly constituencies. In connection with it, the MLAs of Churachandpur, Saikot, Singngat and Henglep assembly constituencies held a meeting with the deputy commissioner, Churachandpur district on Tuesday.
The meeting decided upon the District Supply Officer, Churachandpur as the sole authority for the issuance of PDS rice and as such, will be held accountable for matters relating to the same, the MLAs said.
The Churachandpur MLAs said that the police had started investigation on the matter.
Henglep MLA assured that the PDS rice bags stuffed in the six trucks will be returned to the respective godowns for distribution to the public.
Saikot MLA said the report regarding the reduction of 20 per cent of the rice distribution will not be accepted as the people should get 100 per cent of their entitled allocations. He also urged the DSO concerned to notify the respective nominees of MLA and PDS agents.
