Six-day workshop on pena and costume making begins

The workshop is organised by the Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University.

The inaugural function of the six-day Workshop on Pena and Costume Making of Manipuri Dance cum a book release event was held at Manipur University court hall on Saturday.

The workshop is organised by the Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University.

A book titled ‘Performing of Arts and Culture’, authored by Pukhrambam Lilabati and Premlata Maisnam, was also released during the inaugural function.

Speaking on the occasion, Ex MLA and former vice chancellor of Manipur University Ng Bijoy stated that Manipuri art and culture was famous all over the world for its intrinsic unique flavour.

“Manipuri dance and other cultural performances are sought after outside the state,” he said.
He emphasised the need to educate others about the rich diverse cultural heritage of Manipur.
“We need home-grown and well-read authors who know the nuances of our culture. Outsiders have authored our stories for too long, it is time to rectify it,” he said.

He further stated that such measures would immensely benefit in the growth and exposure of the state’s culture.

Manipur University vice chancellor N Lokendra, head of Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University P Bilapati Devi, assistant professors of Department of Dance and Music L Shubadra Devi and professor M Macha Chaoreikanba along with students of the department were also present during the event.
