Six arrested; rented cars mortgaged with forged documents

The police has issued an advisory to the public to not rent out vehicles without verifying the complete identity of the person and not to give money for mortgaging vehicles without complete documents and verification of documents such as RC, Aadhaar Card.

Six persons were arrested from different locations in connection with a case of forgery on Thursday, police sources said.

The arrest was made by a team of Lamsang Police station led by H Sanjoy Meitei, OC-Lamsang PS and S Surjakumar, SI of Lamsang PS under the supervision of Rahul Gupta, IPS SDPO Lamphel, in connection with a case registered under FIR No 12(4)2023 LSG-PS u/s 471, 468, 467, 420/34 IPC.

Two persons rented two cars, a Baleno Metallic Silk bearing regd No MN06LB4768 and an i20 white bearing regd No MN01G6803 from Angom Rental Service located at Langthabal Phuramakhong at Rs 3,000 per day per vehicle from March 30 till April 4 on verbal contract.

However, they failed to return the said vehicles even after the last date and the additional rent was also not paid. They kept on extending the date for the rentals of the vehicle. The cars were tracked down after the owner filed a complaint over the matter.

Lamsang Police, with the help of GPS, tracked down the i20 White from the Heibongpokpi area on April 11. The car was found in the possession of one Thangjam Samananda Singh of Heibongpokpi Maning Leikai.

On further investigation, it was found out that the i20 was provided to him under mortgage at Rs 3.8 lakh on March 31 by four individuals.

The four accused are 24-year-old Maibam Deepu Meitei, 31-year-old Takhellambam Ajit Meitei, 28-year-old Ingudam Robinnganba Meitei and 28-year-old Lairenmayum Shantikumar Singh. They produced fake Aadhaar Card and forged RC with the same particulars of the original owner of the vehicle to mortgage the car to get quick money.

Further, the metallic silk Baleno was tracked down by Lamsang Police from Lilong Arapati area from one Ojit Singh. The said vehicle was also provided to him on mortgage with a payment of Rs 4.2 lakh by two people.

One 28-year-old Konsam Raju Singh and 35-year-old Rajkumar Dumba also made fake Aadhaar cards and forged RC with the same particulars of the original owner of the vehicle for quick money.
