Shops inspected ahead of Ningol Chakkouba festival

PPCM team found the shopkeepers and agencies avoiding GST taxes and deceiving customers by overpricing the utensils.

A price inspection drive at the utensil shops along the Wahengbam Leikai was conducted by a team of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) led by PPCM convenor on Wednesday.

A release by PPCM stated that the team led by PPCM convenor Maibam Bisheshor conducted the inspection drive and found the shopkeepers and the respective agencies overpricing the items allegedly. The PPCM team found the shopkeepers and agencies avoiding GST taxes and deceiving customers by overpricing the utensils, it alleged.

It accused the government of paying a deaf ear to the issue and questioned if the state government is also working with the agencies in the alleged price manipulation of the items.

It continued that with the Ningol Chakkouba festival approaching, PPCM appealed to the shopkeepers not to overprice the items. It cautioned the public to be wary of frauds while shopping and also urged the shopkeepers to extend support to the drives and awareness programme conducted by the PPCM.
