Shirui Lily Festival 2022: Over 100 bikers take part in bike rally

The bike rally was flagged off at Awontang Ukhrul by state Transport Minister Khashim Vashum on Saturday morning.

The 4th edition of the Shirui Lily Festival bike rally was flagged off at Awontang Ukhrul by state Transport Minister Khashim Vashum on Saturday morning. Over 100 bikers from various district bikers associations of Manipur took part in the rally.

Khashim handed over Manipur state transport T-shirts which bear the motto ‘Redefining Public Transportation in Manipur’ made for the Shirui Lily Festival to the respective leaders of the biker teams. 

Earlier in the day,, he also inspected the ongoing building construction of Pettigrew College and interacted with the contractor, executive engineer of MOBEDS, college principal, executive members of Hunphun village authority, Hunphun Katamnao Long and All Hunphun Tang Association.

 “If the work is executed with quality, it will leave a good legacy. Similarly, if it is done badly it will leave a bad legacy,” he stressed and directed all the concerned to maintain quality. 

Concerning the grassroot education initiative taken up by the state government, Vashum who is also a member of Manipur Minority and Economic Development Society (MOBEDS), said that Ringui government high school in West of Chingai kendra in Ukhrul district was recently upgraded to a higher secondary school for the benefits of the area.

It may be mentioned that the ongoing construction of ‘Academic Block and College Main Gate’ of Pettigrew college n is executed at an estimated cost of 14.9 crore under Manipur Minority and Economic Development Society (MOBEDS). 

Meanwhile, Pettigrew college principal Soreishang Kasar had apprised minister Khashim about the acute shortage of teaching staff and class rooms facing the college and appealed to him to look into the genuine issues facing the lone government college in the state. 

A total of 608 students took admission in the current academic session, Kasar said, and thanked the minister for his visit and concern for the college.
