Seven houses in Makhom village were dismantled and removed as per the court’s order and police fired tear gas cells in relation to the land dispute case between Kangchup Chiru and Makhom village in Kangchup Geljang sub-division under the jurisdiction of Kangchup police station, Kangpokpi district on Friday.
The court issued an order to remove the seven houses constructed illegally in the lands of Kangchup Chiru by the villagers of Makhom.
SDC Kangchup Geljang along with Kangpokpi district police had already tried to dismantle the houses three times as per the court’s order but failed due to less number of police forces.
A team led by SDC Kangchup Geljang Nabakumar Sharma along with a massive police force went into the village for the fourth time at around 10 am.
Police forces fired tear gas cells at the villagers who agitated against the police. Retaliating against the police, around 30 women and 20 men of the village pelted stones at the police.
Later, the SDC informed the villagers to vacate the houses within 10 minutes and used excavators to demolish the houses. Eviction process continued till 1 pm.
A combined team of 250 personnel from Kangpokpi District Police, special commando, 8th IRB and 9th IRB(Mahila) were used during the eviction process.
