The Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee on Tuesday demanded life imprisonment for all individuals implicated in the assassination of SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar in Moreh.

This fervent plea was raised as members of the Ima Keithel staged sit-in protests, channelling their collective voice for justice.

Convenor of the committee Y Ibeyaima said that the two arrested persons involved in the killing of Anand are also implicated in the arson and expulsion of Meiteis residing in Moreh.

The supporters of these terrorists in Moreh have vehemently demanded their release at the police station, she said.

“We are staging sit-in protests to voice our vehement opposition to this matter,” Ibeyaima said. Appealing to both the Central and Manipur Governments not to give in to pressure, she urged “not to fall into the trap set by those supporting these terrorists.”

In accordance with the rule of law, these two perpetrators must face just and lawful consequences for their actions, she said.

It should be mentioned that security forces on Monday successfully apprehended the main accused, Philip Khaikholal Khongsai, along with his accomplice Hemkholal Mate, linked to the killing of Moreh SDPO Anand Kumar.

Our Kakching correspondent has added that meira paibis, clubs, organisations and people of Sugnu also demanded capital punishment of both accused persons during a protest on Tuesday.

People of Sugnu made a strong demand to the government to award befitting punishment to the two accused at the protest held at Sugnu Keithel. Taking part in the protest Sugnu Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Secretary, Aheibam Chanthoisana alleged the Kuki community as criminal supporters as the Kuki women have been demanding the release of the two accused without any condition.

She warned of intense agitation by the people of Manipur if they have been released without the knowledge of the public. She also urged the chief minister to give orders and use his power wisely to conclude the ongoing violence.
