District Health Society, Churachandpur on Thursday organised a sensitisation workshop and training on ‘Air Pollution and its Impact on Human Health’ for municipal workers and traffic police personnel at ADCC Conference Hall, Tuibong Churachandpur.
The event which was organised under under the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) witnessed the presence of the state nodal officer (NPCCHH), Dr Y Nevada, district nodal officer (NPCCHH) Dr Kaisiankhai Haokip and block officer of Samukamlan Dr James K Touthang as resource persons.
Dr Nevada said there are short term effects and long term effects of air pollution, and one must use authentic masks like N95 to prevent them. He further spoke about the dos and don'ts which the traffic police, sanitation workers and staff of the ADCC can follow.
He also said that sleeplessness, asthma, etc. are the short term effects while premature birth, respiratory problems can also be caused by air pollution.
Resource persons of the programme also talked about the sources of pollution. They pointed out that second hand vehicles which are more than 10-year-old can emit nitrogen which is also caused by burning of firewood.
