Sensitisation programme on violence against healthcare workers held in Imphal

The IMA Manipur conducted a panel discussion on the topic, ‘The Supreme Sacrifice of Dr Archana Sharma’ in Imphal on Sunday.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch held a sensitisation programme on violence against HealthCare Providers and Institutions on Sunday at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat.

The programme was organised through a panel discussion on the topic, ‘The Supreme Sacrifice of Dr Archana Sharma’. Dr Archana Sharma was an obstetrician practicing in her own hospital at Rajasthan, it mentioned.

It stated that she committed suicide on March 29, following a non bailable FIR lodged against her by the husband of a patient who expired at her hospital. This was a result of undue pressure by the local pressure groups, it further stated.

IMA Manipur State Branch, feels that Violence Against HealthCare Providers and Institutions are also increasing in Manipur, it stated.  

The purpose of the discussion was to bring a solution to help reduce or stop violence against Healthcare providers and institutions by seeking valuable suggestions from the learned panel, it mentioned.

The discussion brought out lot of positive feedbacks and suggestions from all the panellists and emphasised on improving ‘Doctor-Patient’ relationship, developing soft skills of healthcare providers, creating media-cells and Public relation cells in all hospitals and clinics to help develop positive media vibes, liaising with the police department, the Human rights and Civil society organisation to help bring a change in the healthcare scenario of Manipur, it stated.

The panellists constituted of IOGS president Dr N Subodha; director, Human Rights Alert Babloo Loitongbam; VP IPSA, social activist Khuraijam Athouba; chairperson, Manipur Human Rights Commission Khaidem Mani; IPS, ADGP Trg/LO, Manipur Police Clay Khongsai; executive editor, Manipur Mail Nongthoukhongjam Ibungochoubi Singh, it added.
