Joint civil bodies on Wednesday demanded the state authorities to send the required data and documents required for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list.

The Scheduled Tribe Protection Act was the “only measure” to provide security to the Meitei community, the bodies stated while addressing the media during the book release function at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

The book is a compiled data of the miss call campaign undertaken by various CSOs for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list.

Speaking on the occasion, Kangleipak Kanba Lup secretary Urikhimbam Ngamkheingakpa Luwang stressed the need for Meiteis to be included in the ST list.

“The miss call campaign was an experiment to see the people’s response regarding the demand,” he said.

He highlighted that over 10 lakh miss calls were received during the entirety of the campaign which began on November 21,2023 and lasted till December 31, 2023.

He stated that the compiled data on the campaign would be submitted to CM Biren and initiate suitable action for the inclusion.

He expressed discontentment over the government’s complete lack of responsibility regarding the matter and failing to send the recommendation.

“If any community objects to the inclusion, we can have a civil discussion and work out the rough edges,” he said.
