Seminar on public health, sanitation held in Churachandpur

More than 100 intellectuals, including DLOs, social workers, and CSO leaders of the district attended the seminar which also witnessed a panel discussion, during which four resource persons answered questions from the  participants.

The Vision Lamka (VL) organised a half-day seminar on ‘Public Health and Sanitation’ in Lamka/ Churachandpur Town at the Central Auditorium of Gospel Centenary Hall, New Lamka on Saturday. 

The seminar started with VL chairman N Neihsial welcoming the gathering. He said that at VL they believe that they will put up a vision which will be accomplished after generations. “We believe that the coming generations should not blame us for not acting but be grateful to us for taking the initiative,” he said.

In the seminar, well known persons from Churachandpur district including additional chief secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, Pherzawl DC Haulianlal Guite, former director RIMS, Imphal L Fimate and ZMC, Falkawn, Mizoram and former CMO of Churachandpur Dr Vumchinpau Tonsing  spoke on various aspects on the theme of the seminar.

The additional chief secretary, who is also in charge of the department of Health, Manipur, said that there are many factors like the state government, district council, family/house, etc. who all should work together for public health and sanitation in Lamka, Churachandpur town. He stressed on the need to have a ‘Health Seeking Behaviour’ to achieve the goal of VL and also talked about the need to maintain a healthy food habit for a healthy life. 

Haulianlal Guite spoke on ‘Public policy perspective and public Health and Sanitation in Lamka/Ccpur town’. He said that there is pollution due to construction and multiple vehicles which need to be checked. 

It is a multi faced problem where stakeholders have to use different approaches which should be tackled through the ADC/DC, political leaders, doctors, CSOs including VL, church leaders, etc. and the public for the good of all, he said.

Food safety is a must to have public health and sanitation where eateries and restaurants that had sprung out in all corners of the town have to be FSSAI certified, he said. “We must also have certain standards in our consumption of our cultural food,” he said. The lack of  waste management, public parks for recreation and abuse of drugs are a matter of concern,” he added. 

Dr Vumchinpau Tonsing and Dr L Fimate  talked on the topic ‘Medical services perspective on Public Health and Sanitation at Lamka, Churachandpur town’ and 'Road maps for sustainable Sanitation System and Service in Lamka/ Churachandpur' respectively. 

Vision Lamka is an organisation established in 2021 by like minded individuals, who are mostly top (retired) bureaucrats of Churachandpur district to make Lamka into a best town.
