The Tamenglong Battalion under the aegis of Headquarters 22 Sector/Headquarters inspector General Assam Rifles (East) undertook a tree plantation drive in the Battalion Headquarter as well as in the area of responsibility of different outposts of the Battalion.
In a statement on Tuesday, 44 Assam Rifles Adjutant Major Ganesh Radhakrishnan said that an approximately 600 saplings were planted and nurtured during the drive by the troops of Assam Rifles on the occasion of World Forest Day.
Speaking at the occasion, 44 Assam Rifles commandant Colonel Rahul Singh called upon all to ensure plantation of at least one tree sapling during the onset of this monsoon season. He also emphasised on the pertinence and the need to conduct mass plantation in and around company base areas.
“These small but concrete steps are sure to help us in revamping our ecosystem and securing a better future for the coming generations,” he said.
Contributing towards the health and wellbeing of locals, Tamenglong Battalion under the aegis of 22 Sector/ IGAR (East) also organised a one-day free medical camp for local population on Tuesday.
The Battalion medical staff carrying essential medicines treated elders, needy and locals. The beneficiaries were treated for common ailments and given generic medicines free of costs, it stated.
The Battalion senior medical officer, along with medical staff, also carried out basic health check ups for the attendees. During the camp, as many as 67 total civilians, including 23 women and 19 children, were attended by the Battalion's doctors.
