As a part of the preventive security measures taken up in regards to the visit of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to Manipur on Wednesday, Imphal West district commando have intensified search operation, frisking and checking in Imphal.
Teams of CDO-IW and Imphal Police Station on Tuesday conducted search operation from 5 am to 6.45 am at Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai, Krababam Leikai and Hijam Leikai under the supervision of SP/IW and Addl SP (Ops) in connection with the upcoming visit of VVIP at Imphal, Manipur.
During the search, around 90 houses, including rented houses, were searched and around 200 individuals were verified including seven bailouts. However, no one was picked up.
A surprise search operation was also conducted at Khwai Bridge covering areas Masjid Road, Wahengbam Leikai parking, Jiri parking and Uripok Machin by CDO-IW team from 8.20 am to 8.55 am during which around 180 individual persons were verified. In that 20 persons were picked up and handed over to City police station for further verification.
Later the detainees were released after proper verification.
Meanwhile, district commando Imphal West along with a team of Singjamei Police Station on Monday conducted a house to house search operation at Kha Naorem Leikai covering Manipur University 1st gate at around 5 am to 6.30 am.
During the activity around 90 houses including rented houses were searched and verified however no individual was picked up.
On the same day from 8 am to 8.55 am CDO-IW along with City Police Station team conducted surprise house to house search operations at Paona Bazar side at Governor Road stretch led by OC City PS under the supervision of SP-IW. During such operations, around 85 rented houses were searched and verified properly but no one was picked up.
It is reported that the vice president will be visiting Imphal on Wednesday. He will be reportedly attending an interaction programme with faculties/scientists of central institutions of Manipur and Manipur Crafts persons and national awardees of Handlooms and handicrafts/GI Tagged products of Manipur.
