Security has been beefed up in Imphal as preventive measures ahead of the coming 74th Republic Day celebrations to be held in the state.
A team of district commando, Imphal West conducted search operation in the surroundings of Sagolband Tera Sayang Leirak; Tera Sapam Leirak and Tera Lukram Leirak area, Imphal West on Friday morning.
During the police activity which was carried out from 6.20 am to 8 am, about 100 houses including rented houses and five houses of bailed-outs were searched. The police team verified around 170 individuals, including five bailed-outs but none of them were detained for further verification.
In a similar police activity, another district commando team conducted cordon and search operation at Maharani bridge area, Imphal West, covering the area of Wahengbam Leikai parking, Samu Makhong, Masajid road and Uripok Chakri Kom from 8.20 am to 8.50 am.
Around 195 individuals were detained and verified during the activity. Among the detainees, 12 individuals were handed over to the City police station for further verification, and released afterwards.
