Security has been beefed up in Imphal city ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Manipur for inaugurating various projects in the state worth around Rs 300 crore.
Imphal West district commando conducted cordon and search operation (CASO) at two different places in Imphal city on Monday.
The commando team conducted house-to-house search and verification of bailouts/criminals in the adjoining areas of Changangei Awang Leikai and Changangei Uchekon area from 6.10 am to 8.15 am.
During the operation, around 60 houses were searched and 150 individuals were verified, including five bailouts. However, no individuals were detained for further verification.
Meanwhile, the team also conducted CASO at Kasturi crossing, Thangal Bazaar side covering Dharmasala, Yaima store stretch, Bora Gali, and Alu gali from 3.30 pm to 4 pm.
During the police activity, around 167 individuals were verified of which, seven individuals were picked up and handed over to City police station for further verification.
Police reported that the seven individuals were released after verification.
In view of the home minister's visit, Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a meeting at Babupara, Imphal early Monday, which was attended by cabinet ministers, MLAs, civil and police officials.
“Deliberations were held on the preparation for reception, security arrangement, and other programme,” during the meeting, the chief minister said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Among the Rs 300-crore projects, the home minister will be inaugurating the Olympian Park, Sangaithel, Imphal West where the statues of 19 Olympians of Manipur are installed in honour of their contribution to sports.
Amit Shah will also inaugurate the Churachandpur Medical College, 120 feet tall statue of Polo constructed at Marjing hill, Heingang, Imphal East and others.
During the visit to the state, the home minister will also lay the foundation stones for projects costing over Rs 1,000 crore projects.
