Search conducted to trace missing couple

A house-to-house search was conducted in the villages under the presence of their respective village chiefs.

A combined team of 16-Kumaon, 32/CRPF and a team of Churachandpur District Police led by an additional SP on Wednesday raided suspected areas of Leimatak village and its adjoining areas in Bishnupur district, after an old couple went missing.

The missing couple are Pukhrambam Birchandra Singh, 75, of Ningthoukhong Ward No. VII and his wife Sagolsem Pishakmacha Devi, 70, Thinungei Ward No. VI, as per sources.

During the operation, a house-to-house search was conducted in the villages under the presence of their respective village chiefs. Their statements were also recorded but no positive result could be established. Efforts are on to trace the whereabouts of the missing couple, sources said.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Imphal-West District Police, D/08 and E-216-Coys of CRPF conducted a cordon and search operation at Mutum Phibou village under Wangoi police station, Imphal west from 4.30 am till 7 am on Thursday.

As many as 200 houses were searched thoroughly and around 600 villagers were verified. Two PLA bailout cadres were found working as manual labourers during the search, sources said.
