Sapam Nishikant Singh, independent candidate, touted as the richest candidate in Manipur Assembly elections 2022, emerged victorious by winning 8,874 votes in Keishamthong constituency under Imphal West district. He faced a close contest with RPI candidate Th Maheshwar, who won 8,687 total votes.
The other candidates who contested against 47-year-old Nishikant in the constituency are NPP Jayanta Kumar Singh with 5760 votes, BJP Johnson 1,816 votes and INC Aribam Pramodini 73 votes and NOTA 142.
Earlier, ahead of the election, during a one-day political conference held at Keishampat Keisham Leikai, Nishikant told reporters that the Manipur State Legislative Assembly election 2022 is a "fight between truth and falsehood", and politics is not about earning money but to serve the people and bring welfare and development.
“I entered the field of politics not to loot Manipur but to bring development and serve the state at the fullest,” the richest candidate said, adding that a leader should have vision, wisdom whereas the present leaders of Manipur do not have the qualities of being a leader.
The condition of Manipur is getting worse as it is considered as a dry state but liquor is available at every street, he said. “It is even reported that drug laboratories are booming in the state, and a good leader is needed in Manipur to bring the situation under control,” he added.
