Sanjitkumar's final journey: Thousands pay tribute

Sanjitkumar was killed by suspected Kuki militants in the gun battle that took place at Kadangband on Monday.

Cortege of mourners flocked Uripok-Kangchup road on Tuesday to pay respects and floral tribute to the young 'martyr' Saikhom Sanjitkumar Singh alias Subon during his final journey from RIMS morgue to his resting place at Langol Hill range, Imphal West.

Sanjitkumar was killed by suspected Kuki militants in the gun battle that took place at Kadangband on Monday.

Postmortem was conducted on his body at RIMS morgue. His final journey covered major urban areas of greater Imphal which included Nagamapal, Ima Keithel and the whole stretch of Uripok till Langol.

During the procession, thousands from all walks of life paid floral tribute to the body of the deceased. After reaching Uripok Achom Leikai, Sanjitkumar's body was brought to his residential courtyard for final ceremonial rites.

Numerous people also paid gun salute as a sign of respect for Sanjitkumar's ultimate sacrifice. His body was laid to rest at Langol hill range near Langol Lairembi Laishang.

During the procession, people raised numerous slogans demanding the withdrawal of Assam Rifles and safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.

It may be mentioned that 28-year-old Saikhom alias Subon had gone to Kangdangband as a volunteer to thwart the invasive attack of suspected Kuki militants on Monday.
