Sangai Festival 2022 in Churachandpur begins

CM Biren assured that the Manipur Southern Cultural Centre will be upgraded and a guest house will also be built at the project cost of Rs 6 crore apart from other developmental works.

Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 being held at Khuga and Behiang in Churachandpur was inaugurated on Thursday. The festival is being held with the theme 'Festival of Oneness'. 

The chief minister, accompanied by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA of the district and other assembly constituencies of the state attended the festival, which is to be held till November 26 in the district.

At Behiang, the festival was held at Manipur Southern Cultural Centre, which is an amphitheatre overlooking the recently inaugurated Chivu-Chandrakirti Park.

Different cultural troops performed various cultural items such as Thang Ta and Phung Cholom, Zou cultural dance, Maring war dance, and Paomei dance to set the tempo which reached its climax when a Young Zomi guitarist Vonchoi Vaiphei set the stage on fire with her guitar performance.

In the inaugural programme, Singngat AC MLA Chinglunthang Zou delivered the welcome address, during which he thanked N Biren for choosing Behiang as one of the sites for the festival. He also thanked other dignitaries present for attending the festival. He also talked about the need to make the Indo-Myanmar border town of Behiang a tourist hub.

In his speech, N Biren said that he came to spread the message of oneness which was one of his aims as a leader, journalist, and social worker.

He assured that the Manipur Southern Cultural Centre will be upgraded and a guest house will also be built at the project cost of Rs 6 crore apart from other developmental works.

He thanked the MLA of Singngat and the chief of Behiang village for their support in hosting the Sangai Festival and gave his assurance that Behiang will be made the second Moreh.

The MLA and his support were further appreciated by the CM who had visited Behiang at least four times in recent past and  promised that a well-known rock band from a foreign country will be invited when the Behiang Amphitheatre get fully completed.
