Titular King of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba on Tuesday offered prayer for a prosporous and peaceful Manipur at the Sanamahi shrine in Uttra Shanglen in Imphal East on the auspicious ocassion of Lainingthou Sanamahi Cheng Hongba on Tuesday.
"May everylasting peace prevail in Manipur with immense development and prosperity," Sanajaoba, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP said, as he led the devotees and offered rice grains and seasonal fruits and vegetables to the deity.
Speaking to the media, Sanajaoba narrated the Meetei mythology "Nongkhong Koiba" where supreme deities Lainingthou Sanamahi and Ibudhou Pakhangba where challenged for kingship.
After the completion of the challenge, it came to an agreement where Sanamahi was given the kingship of the entire household of the Meetei families and Pakhangba was given the kingship of Kangla (Manipur), he said.
"The Sanamahi Cheng Hongba is the day lord Samamahi took charge as the king of every households. The day is observed on every full moon of Enga (June) by the Meetei community since time immemoral," he added.
