Manipur Assembly on Thursday acknowledged the achievements of Olympian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on her being conferred with the ‘the Sport Star of the Year (female) award’.
Chief Minister N Biren, who is also the leader of the house, appreciated her achievement during the zero hour of the ongoing 3rd session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly and assured that Saikhom Mirabai Fitness Centre will be constructed at Nongpok Kakching to honour her achievements.
MLA Irengbam Nalini Devi called the attention of MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand on the reported difficulties faced by women vegetable sellers in the Khwairamband bazar due to inadequate time permit for sale.
Khemchand said that the time permit for sale, i.e, from 4 am to 7pm was given under a circumstance. There is a verdict of the High Court that does not allow selling their items in the street of Imphal Municipality Corporation jurisdiction.
He continued that the state had issued notices to shift their space at Lamphel Supermarket. Due to population rise, increase of wholesalers and retailers, the issues are also being increased, he said. The minister further requested the MLA to visit Lamphel Supermarket with him to further discuss the matter.
In a question raised by MLA Th Lokeshwar Singh, Horticulture and Soil Conservation minister Letpao Haokip said that under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), vegetables seeds and spices seeds are provided to the farmers. Cultivation of horticulture crops has been provided as an alternative to poppy cultivation in hill areas, he added.
He also appealed to submit representations for sampling prior to start harvesting. The department needs to send required demands to nursery farms, he added.
He further informed that crops, seeds or samples will be provided if requests are made in a timely manner. The farmers should not worry about waste of production, he further said, adding,the Food Processing Unit at Nilakuthi is well functional and their production can be processed.
