Sacred Heart Catholic Church Tamenglong on Sunday began celebrating its silver Jubilee cum New Church building dedication at New Salem, Tamenglong district headquarters, under the theme, ‘For you were bought at a great price’.
Most reverend DD Archbishop Emeritus Imphal Dominic Lumon attended the event as chief guest.
Hoisting of silver jubilee flag, blowing of trumpet, traditional ululations and unveiling of silver Jubilee monolith by the chief guest marked the event.
The silver jubilee choir presented beautiful and melodious songs during the opening ceremony.
The jubilee mass was led by Most Reverend Dominic Lumon. Reverend Father PX Francis, Reverend Father Jacob Panmei, Reverend Father Stanilaus, Reverend Father Samuel Dilbung, Reverend Father Romeo Gangmei, Reverend Father Innocent Panmei, Reverend Father Philip Kamei, Reverend Father Moses, Reverend Father Tinglung, Reverend Father Athili Martin, brothers and sisters attended the programme.
The new church building is 60 x 90 ft big. The Sacred Heart Catholic Church Tamenglong has 200 families. The festival will continue till January 16.
Most reverend Dominic Lumon also dedicated the new church building in the presence of Mary Help of Christian Parish Priest Reverend Father Stanilaus and believers.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Catechist Sacred Heart catholic Church Thomas Kamei expressed his gratitude to Almighty God for his unfailing love and wisdom to cover such a distance of 25 years.
He also thanked the first Naga Archbishop Most Reverend Dominic Lumon, DD Archbishop Emeritus, 53 Tamenglong ST/AC local MLA Jangamlung Panmei, former Paris Priests and Nuns of Tamenglong for their contribution for growth of catholic faith in Tamenglong district.
“We are grateful to the church leaders past and present, district administration, pastor, religious leaders, village ward and chairman, Jubilee celebration committee members, etc for the grand celebration,” he said.
“The Church will cherish and remember you always in our prayers,” he added.
