Rural Empowerment: Farmers from several villages get training on cultivation of aromatic plants

Farmers were provided training at a one-day awareness cum training programme on ‘Catalysing Rural Empowerment through Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of Aromatic Plants’ organised by a farmers’ society ‘Forever Mapithel Society (FMS)’.

Farmers from different villages received training on cultivation and marketing of aromatic plants during a training programme at the community hall of Wungahon village, Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East district on Monday.

The training was held at a one-day awareness cum training programme on ‘Catalysing Rural Empowerment through Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of Aromatic Plants’ organised by a farmers’ society ‘Forever Mapithel Society (FMS)’.

It was organised in collaboration with Council Scientific Research CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu under CSIR-Aromatic Mission Phase II.

A total of 85 farmers from different 14 villages namely Chadong; Lungphu; Ramrei; Lamlai Khunou; Muirei; Leiyaram; Riha; Thoyee; Sikiphung; Leinganching; Nongdam (kuki); Kangkum; Wungahon and Mayophong took part in the programme.

CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Jasha Momo H Anal, who took part in the programme as a resource scientist introduced the CSIR- Aroma Mission as a part of the programme.

Later, Senior Scientist, Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA), CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Sabha Jeet delivered a speech on the topic ‘Captive Cultivations and Processing of Aromatic Plants/Crops.’

Senior Scientist, Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA), CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, VP Rahul delivered his speech on ‘Marketing of Aromatic Plants/Crops and Value Addition Initiatives-Essential Oils’ while assistant professor department of Chemistry Manipur University Francis AS Chipem delivered his speech on the topic ‘prospects of Aroma plants for hills farmers’.

President of Forever Mapithel Society, Kamjong district Nepolean Shaiza appreciated the farmers for taking part in the programme. He also shared the various problems that the farmers of Kamjong district have been facing due to lack of technical support from the authorities concerned.
