A team of Imphal West district commando arrested one active cadre along with a worker of an underground outfit RPF/PLA from a residence in Imphal West on Monday.
The arrested persons have been identified as one Tourangbam Sanjit Singh alias Nongdren, 33, son of Tourangbam Thambou Singh from Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai and Lendl Potsangbam alias Luching Nganba Meitei, 32, son of Potsangbam Arunkumar Singh from Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai. They were arrested from the house of one Tourangbam Thambou Singh from Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai at 12.30 pm and 12.40 am respectively.
Police reported that during preliminary verification, Sanjit disclosed that he joined the outfit in 2008 and was allotted army number A3122 of the outfit. He is presently working under the self-styled commander (finance/goods tax), Puthiba of the same outfit who is presently staying in Myanmar.
Under the instruction of Puthiba, Sanjit along with his associate, Lendl made monetary demands and extorted a huge amount of money from private institutions, businessmen and the general public in and around Imphal area, as per police.
Sanjit also disclosed that the extorted money is handed over to Puthiba for funding the outfit. On further verification, Lendl disclosed that he started working for the said outfit from October, 2022.
Two mobile handsets; five ATM cards; one debit card; one PAN card; one driving license card; one black colour bag containing one DELL laptop and one Tata Tiago car were seized from their possession.
The arrested persons along with the seizures have been handed over to Singjamei police station for further necessary legal action.
