RPF chief Irengbam Chaoren passes away

Proscribed outfit, Revolutionary People's Front president Irengbam Chaoren breathed his last on Friday at 10.30 pm after he suffered from terminal brain tumour, RPF said.

The proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) on Saturday extended condolences on the demise of its president Irengbam Chaoren, announcing that he passed away at 10.30 pm on Friday after battling with a terminal brain tumour. He was 65.

According to a statement issued by RPF deputy secretary, publicity Roben Khuman, Chaoren passed away on Friday at 10.30 pm after he suffered from terminal brain tumour.

Irengbam Chaoren served as the party's president from 1990 till his last breath. The party will mourn the demise of the president from February 10 till February 24, the RPF stated, adding that the party's flag will be flown half mast during the period as a mark of respect and honour to the departed leader.

Meanwhile, A release issued by CorCom media coordinator M Sak-hen stated that the leaders and members of CorCom along with the NCOs condoled the demise of the former president of RPF Irengbam Chaoren alias Bhorot on Friday. 

It recalled that the revolutionary leader Irengbam Chaoren born on November 2 of 1957 was the eldest son of the three children of late Irengbam Ibomcha and Tongbram Ningol Jamuna from Khagempalli Huidrom Leikaida. Irengbam Chaoren had been leading the revolutionary struggle ever since he assumed the role of the president of RPF in 1990 till his last breath, it added.

“He advocated for a unified revolutionary movement for Manipur as well as the ‘WESEA’ region, and he was also the signatory member of the Manipur People’s Liberation Front (MPLF) which was formed in 1999,” it read. From 2017 till his last breath, he was also the first convenor of CorCom which was formed in 2011, it mentioned.

“Irengbam Chaoren was a steadfast and well-mannered leader who was always welcoming to his subordinates. His death is a huge loss for the revolutionary movement of Manipur and the ‘WESEA’ region,” it stated.

It added that the leaders and members of CorCom and JMC shared the sorrows of the bereaved family and extended prayers for his death to cause a new beginning for the revolutionary movement.
