RIMS to celebrate 52nd Foundation Day

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will be celebrating its 52nd Foundation Day on Thursday (September 14, 2023).

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will be celebrating its 52nd Foundation Day on Thursday (September 14, 2023).

Established as the Manipur Medical College in the year 1972 and renamed as Regional Institute of Medical Sciences 19 years later, the institute caters to the healthcare needs of the country particularly North Eastern Region in the field of imparting undergraduate (MBBS) and Post Graduate (MD/MS/MCh) medical education apart from providing healthcare facilities.

It trains personnel in all important branches of medical specialities including Dental, Nursing and Paramedical. The institute is affiliated to Manipur University, Canchipur and is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

A release by Dr. Kh. Ranjana Devi, Prof. & Head of Microbiology Department and the Chairman, Publicity Committee 52nd Foundation Day Celebration Regional Institute of Medical Sciences stated that the institute has produced a total of 3656 medical graduates, 2225 specialist doctors so far.

As on March 2023, 507 undergraduate medical students, 431 postgraduates are on roll in the institute. There are 214 BDS students and 203 B.Sc. (Nursing) students on the roll and 16 students are currently undergoing MSc. (Nursing) in the institute. The institute also produced 376 BSc. (Nursing) graduates and 199 BDS doctors. Every year meritorious students of the institute are conferred with awards, she stated.

Numerically, there were a total of 3,84,630 OPD attendances, 1,16,332 attendances in causality department, 17919 OT cases, 8645 delivery and 36860 admissions to different wards.

RIMS Hospital is also providing excellent services while implementing PM-JAY and CMHT. It is the highest performer in the state in providing medical treatment and services to PM-JAY and CMHT beneficiaries, Dr. Kh. Ranjana Devi said.

Special help desk and separate counters are there for making cards also in the Hospital. It is worth mentioning that during the period, 9,264 patients under the PM-JAY scheme and 10,753 under CMHT scheme got free medical treatment and free testing facilities at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
