The chief electoral officer Manipur on Monday announced repoll or fresh poll of the general elections to the state Legislative Assembly 2022 in seven polling stations spread across five constituencies under three districts on March 8.
The CEO mentioned in a statement issued on Monday that under sub-section (2) of Section 58 of the Representation of People Act, 51, that the poll taken on March 5 was void and sheduled March 8 as the date for conducting re-poll at the seven polling stations. The repoll will be conducted from 7 am to 4 pm.
As per the CEO Manipur, repoll will be held in polling stations - 44/45 Ukhrul (E-2); 45/25-Kakhang; 45/31-Peh (B); 47/49-Ngamju; 49/4-Yangkhullen (A) and 49/51-Marafi, under 44-Ukhrul (ST) and 45-Chingai (ST) constituencies under Ukhrul district and 47-Karong (ST), and 49-Tadubi (ST) constituencies under Senapati district.
It also stated that repoll will be conducted at 34/9 Wangjing Hodamba of Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency, Thoubal district along with 6 polling stations.
The CEO Manipur cited damage to 12 EVMs by miscreants as reason for repoll in the seven polling stations. Mentioning damage of EVMs by miscreants on March 5 elections at 42/4, 42/13, 42/16, 42/18, 42/42 and 42/43 under 42-Tengnoupal AC, 44/64 and 44/70 in 44-Ukhrul AC, 45/26 and 45/31 under 45- Chingai AC, 49/51 under 49-Tadubi AC and 47/49 under 47-Karong AC. In connection with the incidents, the CEO said FIRs had been lodged at concerned police stations.
