The Kuki Inpi of Kangpokpi district has expressed its discontentment over the Manipur cabinet reshuffle and unexpected removal of the lone woman minister, Nemcha Kipgen from the ministerial berth.
The apex body has stated the entire Kuki community is wondering how the state chief minister thought of dropping its only woman minister from the council of ministers when the BJP is said to be strongly promoting women empowerment and even gave its commitment to pass 33 per cent of Women Reservation Bill.
It also stated that Kangpokpi has given support to the BJP government only after a woman MLA was elected with a vision of empowering women in the society and not for subduing and undervaluing them. Removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the state cabinet has deeply disheartened not only the women community but the entire populace of the district, it added.
It also stated that Nemcha not only represented the women community of the state but she is also the minister in-charge of the district and removing her from the ministerial berth could lead to misunderstanding which can be instrumental in creating ‘trust deficit’ upon the BJP government.
“Therefore, the civil bodies of Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kuki Inpi of Kangpokpi district have urged chief minister, N Biren Singh to reinstate Nemcha Kipgen in the council of ministers to solve the issue and avoid misunderstanding and trust deficit,” said Kuki Inpi.
It also cautioned that if the chief minister fails to listen to the polite appeal of the civil bodies the Kuki Inpi, the people of Kangpokpi may rise in such a way that their voice will be heard by the leaders in the Centre and it can be detrimental for the BJP government in the state.
