Reinforcements airlifted to Jiribam

Manipur government appoints new Jiribam SP, IGAR East takes stock

Amid the new wave of violence in Jiribam district in Manipur, triggered by the heinous killing of Soibam Saratkumar on Thursday by Kuki insurgents along Phaitol Road, security reinforcements have been airlifted to Jiribam to quell the unrest while superintendent of police and officer-in-charge of Jiribam have been reassigned.

As per the directive issued by joint secretary (DP) additional director and in charge director of Manipur Police Training Centre, IPS M Pradip has been appointed as the Senior SP in Jiribam.

In further administrative adjustments, the SP of Jiribam A Ghanshyam, has been appointed as the additional director of the Manipur Police Training Centre.

Moreover, IGP intelligence and NAB Kabib K has been redeployed to assume the role of director at the Manipur Police Training Centre.

Furthermore, in accordance with the directive issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh, Sagakpam Ibotombi, previously slated for transfer to CID (Security), has been designated as the officer-in-charge of Jiribam. In turn, the current officer-in-charge of Jiribam H Devenkishore, will assume responsibilities within the CID (Security) division.

Following the order of ADGP (law and order) L Kailun, a total of 75 security personnel including CDO officers from Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal District, Kakching district and Bishnupur district has been airlifted from Kangla to Jiribam by Indian Air Force Chopper on Saturday.

The security personnel were airlifted from Kangla, around 11 am and the officers at 12:10 pm. According to the order of ADGP, the deployed personnel are to operate under the supervision of SP Jiribam and under the command of OC CDO Jiribam sub-inspector S Kishorjit.

As per sources, the Kuki militant burned down 70 houses of meitei-dominated villages of Lamtai khunou, Narayanpur, and Bhutangkhal under Borobekra Sub-division of Jiribam District including the Jirimukh Forest Beat and Chotobekra Police Check post. Moreover, the Kuki militants launched attacks, employing explosive devices on Lamtai Khunou till Saturday’s morning.

Many Meitei villagers are seeking refuge at various relief camps of Jiribam. According to reports, Jiribam Meitei residents set up two relief camps at Chingdong Leikai Upper Primary School and Mahei khullen Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, the IGAR (East) PRO has stated that additional forces have been deployed in the sector and things are more or less under control. The Jiribam region is under the control of IGAR (East).
