KIMACS secretary general RK Leninsana told the media at its office located at the campus of Manipur Government Dance College, Palace Compound, Imphal that the organisation has found that ‘Byju’s’, in an educational website, and ‘Manipur GK’, a facebook page, highlighted wrong information about Manipuri dance.

Both the website and facebook page mentioned that Guru Bipin Singh is the father of Manipuri Dance, he said, asserting that the answer is not true. Before Guru Bipin Singh, there were three Gurus, namely Guru Amudon, Guru Amubi and Guru Tombi who were in a superior position.

“The three gurus are also known as the tripod of Manipuri dance. How can Guru Bipin Singh be considered as the father of Manipuri Dance?” he questioned.

Manipur has various ethnic communities and each ethnic community, namely Meitei, Tangkhul, Mao, Kabui, Maring and others have their own traditional forms of dance. The collection of these dance forms are known together as Manipuri dance, he added.

He said Byju’s and Manipur GK should remove the erroneous content that could mislead the people about the Manipuri culture, and the authorities concerned should also take necessary steps at the earliest.
