Different seasonal fruits and vegetables along with affordable food items along with information on their nutritional values were displayed to the local women during an ‘Anaemia Camp for Children, Adolescent Girls and Women’ as a part of the 5th Rastriya Poshan Maah at Kangabam Leikai in Imphal West.
It was organised by Sagolband assembly constituency supervisors of ICDS Projects under the theme, ‘Maahila aur Swasthya and Bacha aur Shiksha’ on Monday.
The camp also displayed toys made by Anganwadi workers and helpers besides distributing Iron Folic tablets and sanitary pads to women and adolescent girls along with a free medical check-up.
Speaking to the media, Imphal City Roshnichand Torangbam CDPO said that Rastriya Poshan Maah, also known as National Nutrition Month is a flagship programme of the Central government to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
As malnutrition among children and women are a great factor that affects the development of the country, the programme aims to eradicate malnutrition and ensure good health and nutrition to all, she said.
The food items were displayed to let the women become aware that many affordable foods items also contain good nutritional values, she informed.
The ICDS are encouraging the learning through playing method to the kids by ways of introducing games with mathematics, reasoning and others, she further said, adding, the Anganwadi workers and helpers are encouraged to make toys for children.
Informing that ICDS collects used toys, she said that people can donate used toys to Anganwadi centres so that they can be reused by others.
