District programme officer ICDS Cell launched Rashtriya Poshan Pakhwada 2024 at Zeliangrong Evangelistic hall Tamenglong on Tuesday.
District immunisation officer Dr Sunil Kamei and Tamenglong Supervisor ICDS Project Ruth J Kamei attended as guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
Around 50 women of Anganwadi workers and helpers attended the launching programme.
In her keynote address, ICDS Project Tamenglong supervisor Jenny Kamson said that Poshan Pakhwada is a recurring event organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development with the aim of addressing the complicated challenges related to nutrition and health in India.
She said that Poshan Pakhwada serves as a platform to engage various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organisations, healthcare professionals, educators, and communities, etc. to improve nutrition outcomes.
Poshan Pakhwada programme is held to raise awareness about nutrition, dietary practices, and women’s health, she said, adding that Poshan Pakhwada is to promote positive behavioral changes related to nutrition and healthy lifestyles to address malnutrition, especially among vulnerable groups like pregnant women and children.
Poshan Pakhwada to empower women to make informed decisions about their health and nutrition to Support holistic child development through adequate nutrition and care to advocate for sustainable food systems, including the consumption of locally sourced, nutritious foods.
Speaking on the occasion, guest of honor Dr Sunil Kamei said that a healthy woman gives birth to a healthy child. Women need to remain healthy to build a healthy society.
Health preparation needs to start from pregnancy, when giving birth children are given different vaccines to prevent different diseases.
As part of the programme an awareness rally for Poshan Rally was flagged by guest of honour Dr Sunil Kamei and the rally passed through the heart of town and culminated near Town Baptist Church.
