A Zeliangrongpui Naga Customary Art and Culture Research Society Tamenglong Manipur on Tuesday observed Pukpha Ngai a pre-harvest festival at Ramphanlong Tamenglong Ward No IV with an aim to preserve the rich culture and traditions of the Zeliangrongpui community.
Zeliangrongpui Naga Customary Art and Culture Research Society Tamenglong chairman Ngamthuiyang Pamei attended the event as chief guest of Pukpha Ngai.
Highlighting the importance of Pukpha Ngai, Ngamthuiyang Pamei said that the festival is being celebrated by the forefathers of the Zeliangrongpui people to mark the sacrifice of god’s son Nap-Maja by giving himself as food for human beings.

Pamei said that the important and beautiful old culture, custom and traditions were being abolished by adopting Christianity.
“Even if we had adopted Christianity, our old cultures and traditions should be kept alive, imported into the Church ministry and performed,” Pamei added.
